Obituary for Merritt A. Scott

Merritt Scott, 79, of Paducah, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Scott was a member of East Baptist Church, retired Captain for the Paducah Fire Department and a U.S Marine Corp Veteran. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Union Local #168, Home Builders Association and Wickliffe Masonic Lodge #625. Merritt was a fine, meticulous craftsman with his hands and he was an avid hunter, fisherman and UK fan. He rebuilt the Shriners miniature cars and scooters that can still be seen today in parades.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geraldine Weatherington Scott; a son, Mark Scott of Reidland; a granddaughter, Paige Nicole Scott of Nashville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; his breakfast buddies and fireman buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph L. and Gladys Dallas Scott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Paul Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:00 p.m.
